Founding Vision: Revolutionizing Fan Engagement
In 2020, driven by a passion for enhancing the connection between artists and their fans, I co-founded Planet.fans. Recognizing the challenges fans faced in accessing tickets for their favorite artists, I envisioned a platform that would prioritize and reward loyal fans, ensuring they had seamless access to live events.
Hands-On Development: Building the Foundation
Taking a hands-on approach, I led the development of the Planet.fans platform from the ground up. Key technical decisions included:
-
Next.js for Hybrid Static and SPA Rendering: This approach allowed us to deliver fast, responsive pages capable of handling high traffic during ticket releases, ensuring fans had a smooth experience.
-
Scalable Infrastructure with AWS ECS and Vercel: Implementing AWS Elastic Container Service for backend services and Vercel for the frontend ensured our platform could scale efficiently to meet surges in demand.
Early Successes: Facilitating Ticket Presales
Building up to our collaboration with Mumford & Sons, Planet.fans successfully managed ticket presales for several notable artists:
-
Kaiser Chiefs: We supported presales for their UK tour dates, including their 20th-anniversary show in Leeds. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
-
Girl in Red: Our platform handled presales for her 2025 tour dates, enhancing fan access to her concerts. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
-
Caity Baser: We managed presales for her UK tour, ensuring fans had early access to tickets for her sold-out shows. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}
These successes demonstrated our platform's scalability and effectiveness, laying the groundwork for our subsequent partnership with Mumford & Sons.
Rapid Deployment for Mumford & Sons
One of the significant milestones was the swift deployment of a membership platform for Mumford & Sons. Starting with exclusive access for fans to their global underplay tour in late 2024, we rapidly expanded to support their full European and US tours in 2025. This achievement showcased our platform's scalability and my ability to lead rapid development cycles under tight deadlines.
Building and Leading a Dedicated Team
As the platform gained traction, I focused on assembling a small, dedicated team of engineers and designers. Together, we fostered a culture of innovation, collaboration, and agility, enabling us to iterate quickly and respond to user feedback effectively.
Innovating Fan Engagement: The Beat Personalization Engine
Understanding the importance of personalized fan experiences, I conceptualized and championed the development of The Beat, a fan tagging system that powers segmentation and personalization. This engine analyzes fan interactions, allowing artists to deliver tailored content and offers, thereby deepening fan engagement and loyalty.
Vision for the Future: One-Click Fan Engagement
Looking ahead, I laid out a vision for a one-click fan engagement system, aiming to simplify and enhance the way fans interact with their favorite artists. This initiative seeks to streamline processes like ticket purchasing and content access, making fan engagement more intuitive and rewarding.
This case study underscores my role as a hands-on engineer and technical leader, highlighting my contributions to the conception, development, and scaling of Planet.fans, and my commitment to innovating fan engagement in the live events industry.
